We spend so much time trying to understand our parents, long after they are gone. But it's our own life we are trying to decipher and heal. I enjoy the detailed account, looking for clues in the past to understand the present.

The past is full of mysteries. It feels like we spend our lives trying to process them. Brave and compelling writing.

Certainly is! It’s tricky when the mysteries are childhood memories. I do know the feelings of those times are stored in my body and psyche. It’s interesting to recognise how, when and where various threads developed, like the anxiety, not feeling safe, the need for space, the use of sugar. There’s a theme around many of these homes feeling dark, which is why I need rooms that are full of light.
